Portfolio: Web Developing and Multimedia
My multimedia programming professor asked me to teach as a supplemental instructor because I did well in his classes and asked a lot of questions.
Since I graduated from college, I have learned even more about designing useful Web applications through freelance work.
Web sites
STC-TC Web Site (freelance project)
The Twin Cities chapter of STC needed a new Web site that they could update more easily than the large static site they had. I designed for them a dynamic Web site that would allow multiple admin members to update different parts of the site remotely and also allow member users to contribute and interact with the site.
I designed the template in Dreamweaver, and then taught myself MySQL and PHP, which I used to design the information architecture of the site—the organization of information on the site pages that is dynamically delivered from the database. I developed the site’s content management system, admin interface, and user features, all of which I coded from scratch. I worked directly with power users to test and improve the information architecture.
More than 200 STC members were registered on my site while it was in use for three years (from 2006 through 2009).
Online e-Scholar Manual (group project)
My first large Web project was the online version of the e-Scholar
Quick Guide, which I worked on with two other students. The manual
is for an online teaching tool called e-Scholar that instructors used at UW-Stout while I was a student. The purpose of this
manual was to help teachers set up a course web site on e-Scholar with ease.
Our goal was to save instructors time and help them become more comfortable
with this online teaching tool.
Our group shared the Web page production work, and I collected all the finished Web pages and finalized the site.

Multimedia Presentation
Toyota Prius Commercial
As part of a final assignment in the Public Relations course at UW—Stout,
I worked in a group of three to develop
a campaign to present to the class for alternative energy. Our primary
focus was the Toyota Prius. I created
a persuasive, informative advertisement video using Macromedia
Director and Adobe Photoshop.
